Gifts for autistic adults

A gift guide written by an autistic adult, so here’s the honest version. Most of us like gifts that are predictable, comfortable and about something we love. We do not like surprises that itch.

Good bets: a soft hoodie in a colour they already wear (ours have no neck tag), a mug for the drink they have every single day, or a sticker for the laptop that’s already covered. Not sure? Ask what they’re into this month, then listen for a while.

Avoid anything with a puzzle piece, and anything that treats autism like a sad thing. Funny, kind and a little bit specific always wins.
